Uh-Oh!

In a recent study by analysts at Wetfeet, students interested in pursuing a career in Management Consulting were asked:

"Please select up to 3 factors that make your top ranked company appealing to you."

Of the 800+ responses, only 2 people said that "Ethics" was one of their top 3 factors for choosing a consulting firm. The category "Other" was rated more highly than "Ethics."

Just a point of clarification.

The Wetfeet survey result is more of a symptom, not a problem.

I'm not blaming students or recruiters for this lack of focus on ethics. Having been on mnay campus recruiting events, the subject of ethics is rarely talked about with the same emphasis as the work, the clients and the career opportunity.

Both recruiters and students must help bring this issue to a more important place in the hiring process.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, I'd have to agree that it is kind of sad. I remember reading about auto company that used the fact that it came in "4th" on the list of best cars and the thing about it was that the criticism was couldn't they think of something better to say then they came in 4th?
Unfortunately big business has become very cuthroat!

It would have been interesting to see just what the "other" broke down into - specifics-wise.....

Cute. Ya know though, so as not to just point the finger at students ... I wonder how high recruiting firms (not just consulting firms) place ethics on the scale in terms of desirable job candidate qualities).

As JSLogan said, "sad and yet funny".

Nothing more sad and yet funny.
